What type of memory does a Dell Dimension 2400 take to upgrade? How much does it max out at?

Trying to purchase RAM for a Dell Inspiron 2400. Cant find what type of RAM (PC3200, etc.) this machine will work with or what it maxes out at. Dell will not provide info for this item since it is out of warranty.

Anyone know where I can find this info or know it offhand?

Thanx in advance!|||You say dimension 2400 in the tittle but inspiron 2400 lower down. I will assume you mean the former as the latter does not seem to exist.

The first place I looked at is the techincal specs in the service manual " http://support.dell.com/support/edocs/sy鈥?/a> ", unfortunately these are inconsistant with themselves (they say that max memory is 2GB but the highest module they list as supported is 512MB and they only list two slots)

It says the memory type needed is "PC2100 (266-MHz) or PC2700 (333-MHz) DDR SDRAM (non-ECC) "

Crucial agree with dell on the max supported memory, memory type etc and say that 1GB modules are supported so I suspect the lack of mention of 1GB modules in the service manual was just an accidental ommision on dells part.

I think i've dealt with this model before and fitted a 1GB module (alongside one of the existing 256MB modules for 1.25GB total memory) with no issue (not positive it was the same model though but it looked the same and was from a similar era).|||http://www.crucial.com/index.aspx

Crucial is a very big player in the manufacturing of Memory. This free scan on their home site will tell you exactly what RAM you do have, what combination and sizes and speed you can have.

Its Free and a tool I have used on countless occasions doing memory upgrades.
