How can I restore my Dell Studio 1555 to factory setting when f8 doesn't work?

I'm trying to restore my Dell Studio 1555 to factory image, but when I select f8 at launch, the repair computer option is not there. I've used the reinstall disc, but that seemed to cause it's own problems. I really want it to go back to factory image and I can't seem to get the pcrestore fuction to give me that option. Please help!|||Repair computer isn't going to restore it, it will simply repair your existing files.

You need to boot into the recovery partition itself and restore to out of box settings. Most likely your problems are hardware related, and aren't due to the CD or recovery partition. Perhaps you need to install a new HDD.|||Looks like your best bet now is to reinstall the OS.

Then install drivers and such from Dell.

There is a suggested install order for drivers by Dell.

1) You may already know this, but after you format your drivers should be installed in a specific order - see here - Dells can be fussy about this:

http://support.dell.com/support/topics/g鈥?/a>

2) I would recommend that you check the drivers page and download the ones that match your hardware BEFORE you reformat/reinstall and put them on a CD or a USB key. If you wait until after you format it's much harder to tell which of the available drivers you need - even with the service tag it lists all the drivers for the model, not just the ones specific to your particular tag.

You can use a tool like Belarc Advisor to generate a hardware inventory so you can match the drivers correctly:

How do i return my Dell inspiron 1501 to factory settings?

I have had to do this before but don't remember how. I think it has something to do with pushing F11 as fast as i can when i start it up and the Dell logo first appeares on the screen.|||If the Dell has the Symantec restore partitition (and by your description it sounds as if it does), (Dell Restore by Symantec is available on Dimension and Inspirion systems that shipped on or after 7/16/2004 in the Americas), to access the partition:

1. Power the computer on

2. When the Dell screen appears press and hold the %26lt;Ctrl%26gt; key on the keyboard, press the %26lt;F11%26gt; key, then release them both at the same time.

The Dell Restore by Symantec window appears.

NOTE: Press the keys only one time. If you press them more than once, a keyboard error occurs and the process has to be initiated again.

3.Click the Restore button or press the %26lt;Tab%26gt; key to highlight Restore and press the enter key.

A caution message appears advising that all data will be lost.

4.Click the Confirm button or press the %26lt;Tab%26gt; key to highlight Confirm and press the enter key.

The Progress window appears. Once the process is begun, Dell PC Restore usually takes only 8 to 10 minutes to complete.

When the restore is complete, the message The system recovery process was successful appears.

5. Click the Finish button or press %26lt;Tab%26gt; key to highlight Finish and press the %26lt;Enter%26gt; key.

The computer will restart.

Your software is now as it was when you first received your computer.

NOTE: After the Operating System has been restored, it is important to run Windows Update as soon as possible to bring the system to the latest level of security.|||insert the system restore disk that came with the computer and restart the computer with the dvd in the tray. choose to restore the system to factory conditions when prompted.

How can I change from wired internet to wireless on a Dell Inspiron?

When I first got my Dell Inspiron (running Windows 7), I was automatically able to connect to wireless connections. After having my (wired, no router) cable internet set up, I'm no longer able to do this. I made sure my adapter was enabled. I'm leaving town soon, and I want to make sure I have access to internet on this computer. Any help would be greatly appreciated!|||Go to Settings, Control Panel, and click on Device Manager (you need to be in icon mode not list mode (upper right hand corner of Control Panel)). Under Device Manager, look for Network Adapters. Then right mouse click on each one and select Enable. Then, select Update Driver Software also under right mouse click. Is it possible to burn a system restore disk for a Dell Inspiron desktop?

My Dell Inspiron Desktop computer needs to be restored to factory settings. It appears that it does not have the required partition to do the ctrl+F11 restore. I no longer have the system restore CD. I do have the operating system CD as well as the Microsoft Office suite, but that is about it.

Can I download and burn to a CD the System Restore disk?|||You don't need the system restore disk.

Format the hard drive and install the O/S - and then Office.

You might have to hunt down some drivers for specific pieces of hardware that windows doesn't automatically install (usually suggestable anyway to make sure they are all up-to-date).

A 'restore CD' puts two tons of crap on your machine - the same way they come from dell. I've been extremely happy with my dell desktop and laptop machines, but the first thing I had to do to both was to uninstall all of the extra garbage - isp installs, bloatware, 'sample' and 'demo' software, etc.

A clean install is better than a system restore any day of the week.

If you have files to get off, there are ways of doing that. Search online for suggestions.|||Sure, illegally. A system restore disc is just a copy of Windows and you use it to reformat the hard drive.|||Your operating system cd should do the job, also check out the dell website most manufactures have that sort of thing available to freely download from there site failing that ringing up and sounding nice might get you what you want.

How much is a Dell dimension xps with pentium III software worth?

I have a Dell dimension xps computer with pentium III software that has less than 1gb of ddr memory and im sure about the harddrive. It has all of the basic computer components but in 1999,

it was a high end, expensive studio computer. Also, it was made for microsoft, windows 98, windows ne, and possibly a few others. It is now 10 years old and I need to know how much money it is worth.|||Absolute most would be $100 but that's only if you could sell it to a real sucker, whether or not it was an expensive computer when you bought it doesn't change the fact it's only a Pentium III processor with less than 1GB of RAM, modern netbooks and computer with much better specs can go for as little as $200 so in your case anywhere between $25-50 in the most I would believe you could sell such a machine for, especially because of the fact at about 10 years of age, I don't know about you, but I wouldn't have a lot of confidence in the parts lasting that much longer.|||Old computers are practically worthless, no matter how high end they

were when manufactured. You will probably have to give it away for recycling. If you find a person willing to buy it, don't expect more than $25.|||Honestly you'd be lucky to sell it for over $75 (personally I wouldn't purchase it for over $50), if it is truly that old, there would really be little use for it besides the parts, mainly the tower itself would be the main thing of worth.|||Maybe $25

How do I get Dell Latitude D610 dvd player to work?

The previous owner "wiped it" and although it has a dvd rw drive we can't get it to play dvd movies, is there a free fix for this?|||If the drive is working correctly with other disks but just not movies then it sounds like the system is missing the "DVD Decoder" software. How long can a Dell laptop run without being connected with its wifi off?

I have a Dell Inspiron 1525, and I was wondering if the battery lasts longer with wifi off, and how long it would last. Thank you!|||Your really not going to save hardly any battery life by turning your wifi switch off. I mean if you don't need it on then you better switch it off.|||You will save minimum juice. The real savings is if you don't use it. If you have it on, but just scanning for access points that is not going to draw much energy.

To answer the original question though, you can run a dell laptop without being connected until the battery drains :)|||Yes... it would last longer.

Often times when I am traveling on an airplane I shut off both the bluetooth and wifi features and turn the screens backlight to the lowest setting (also, b/c it is FCC regulation to do so). My Dell laptop contains a 6 cell battery that typically last 4-5 hours on a full charge... and with the 3 settings that I have changed I am able to extend my battery life for almost an additional 2.5 hours

Of course, battery life is hard to predict... I have my DVD running and using headphones to listen to the movie will performing intensive data crunching doing data analytics work... so the answer is:

Yes it extends the battery life but depending on your laptop and what you will be doing with it ... the results will vary.

Hope that helps!|||It depends on your computer model %26amp; wi-fi adapter. Some of them lower the range of frequency when it's near the router. The new ones save 15-40% of the battery. Of course you'd better turn off your wi-fi when your computer is unplugged and you're not working online.

How do I extract Dell Power Vault Autoloader 124T tapes manually?

We have a Dell Power Vault Autoloader 124T. It's dead. Probably a power supply issue. We are ready to retire it anyway.

1. Any tips on how we can manually extract the tapes that are inside of it? We'd appreciate your detailed, step by step directions.

2. Assuming it doesn't have much worth, how would you suggest that we sell it or recycle it?|||Since you said tapes (plural), I'm assuming you mean the side cartridges, which are probably locked unless you unlocked it with your software before it died. If you're just going to get rid of it, you can pop the casing off until you find the locking mechanism, which will allow you to slide the cartridges out safely, without damaging the product or the tapes inside. The cartridges easily slide in and out and are held in by a simple locking feature. It's going to take some time to do.

If you have a tape in the drive itself, you're in a world of trouble. When a tape is loaded into the drive, the film is wrapped around the spindles, so unless you are amazingly good with this task, you're kind of screwed. This happened to us with SDLT tapes. Never had this problem with LTO3 tapes, but I can easily assume it's the same.

I would like to exchange an older computer bought from Dell. Please advise.|||Please be more specific about the "Orange" light. Are you talking about an LED near the CMOS battery? Where on the mobo is this "Orange" light?|||i don't know about that specific machine but if you try to turn it on after unplugging it from the wall and back in, and the PSU and/or CPU fans jump a little, it's probably a bad motherboard. if you have spare memory or more than 1 stick in your machine you can do a ram dance...if you have two sticks, take out one and boot it, then take it out and put in the other and boot it...if it boots with one stick and not the other, that's ur problem. if it boots with neither, it's the motherboard or maybe (but it's less likely) the cpu.

Right now it is currently in the boxing phase of production. How long does the boxing phase usually take? It has been in boxing since last Friday, 12/26/2008.|||I got my custom built Dell 630i with Windows XP Pro installed instead of Vista Ultimate.

I ordered a larger power supply and an ATI 4850 video card.

I got the system within 8 or 9 days from ordering. I even got a DVD with Windows Vista Ultimate with the restore disks that Dell provides.

Watch your bootup screen with the Dell and see if there is a restore option using F11 on bootup.

How do restore my Dell that runs on Windows ME back to factory settings?

I have a Dell computer that I got a few years ago from someone used and I need to restore it to factory settings. It is a Windows ME and I don't know how to find out anything else about it. If anyone could help that would be extremely appreciated.|||Unfortunately if the system has Windows ME it does not have a built-in factory restore. To reinstall the OS you will need the disks that came with the computer.

If you have the disks for your system here is a link that explains how to perform the reinstall: http://support.dell.com/support/topics/g鈥?/a>

Since I am not sure what system you have you will want to get updated drivers for your system here: http://support.dell.com/

When you reinstall an OS make sure to have everything backed up to another drive or disk (any information that is not backed up will be lost). Please note the guide provided is basic (not exact to your system since I do not have the system model) and you will want to make sure that you have the proper drivers on a disk or USB key before doing the OS reinstall. Also any programs you have on the system will need to be reinstalled (Dell programs, your programs etc). Make sure you have the disks for the programs you want to install.

This is a bit more involved process than some of the new Dell computers have, but it can be done and will fix any software problems you are having.

I hope this helps.|||with windows me, i would go on ebay and either buy a copy of windows xp if it can run it, or windows 98se, because windows ME has been said many times to be the worst OS ever.|||Thats older than windows 98', get a new laptop!!!

How do I get Dell Laptop to show through Viewsonic LCD using S-Video and XP/Dual Monitors?

I am teaching a class and want to see on my Dell laptop screen and also the Viewsonic monitor. Sometimes things come out blurry, sometimes not at all. I also don't know if I need a driver. Thanks.|||Don't use S-video. S-video is a low-definition analog signal intended for use with old boob-tube TVs, not LCDs. That is why S-video looks terrible on your Viewsonic LCD.

Your Dell laptop might have a VGA port. If it does, you should be using a standard VGA monitor cable to connect it to your Viewsonic LCD. That will look MUCH better than S-video.

What is the rationale for the following finance policy at Dell?

Dell has never declared or paid any dividends on shares its common stock and currently does not anticipate paying any cash dividends in the immediate future.

Please explain.|||Not all stocks pay dividends. Investors seek the capital gains through growth and are willing to forfeit current income to get there. Some people look at dividends as siphoning the income and retained earnings from a company, which it is, and that retards potential growth.

I will acknowledge that their policy made more sense early when Dell was growing. Now that they are a mammoth and have been for some time, they probably should pay something out.

|||Dell believes it ca earn a higher rate of return on it's investments than it's shareholders. Also there's capital gains tax vs. income tax on dividends differential.

There is a boot password controlled from BIOS, and you have to enter bios to set it up. Otherwise, as I recall, WIN98 only allowed you to enter a password under the Install/set-up process... Haven't messed with that in years, but I think that there is a way around that by trying to configure the network connection, and set access to be controlled by windows login ??? Also, if you don't have an account, you can bypass the password and just get in anyhow...

What is the best video card to put into a dell inspiron 531s desktop?

I own a Dell Inspiron 531s Desktop and im pulling hairs on which card to buy..i want a decent card to be able to keep up with the newest games such as call of duty but i don't to be paying hundreds of dollars..Can anybody please help?|||Unfortunately, you can't put high-end gaming cards into any slimline desktop.

Slimline computers can only accept low-profile graphics cards. And the midrange cards in the $125-$250 range aren't manufactured in low-profile, only full-height models exist.

Moreover, slimline computers have weaker power supplies than regular tower desktops. And unlike regular tower desktops, those power supplies are proprietary (so you can't just replace them with a regular ATX power supply from Newegg or Amazon)

You'll need to open your computer case and read the label on your power supply. If it's only 250 watt (which I believe is standard for the Dell Inspiron 530s and 531s) then you're kinda stuck. The best low-profile graphics card that works on such a low-wattage power supply is the GeForce GT430. But it's a bit overpriced at $70

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.as鈥?/a>

The Radeon HD 5570 is slightly faster and costs less, but there's a catch... it draws more power. Because of the higher power draw (and there's very little leeway with a 250W slimline power supply) it might not work without a power supply upgrade. You could try it, though.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.as鈥?/a>

Now if you upgraded you power supply, you could definitely run the 5570. In fact you could even run faster low-profile cards like the GeForce GT 440 or Radeon HD 5670 (those are what you'd really want for playing Call of Duty)

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.as鈥?/a>

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.as鈥?/a>

Here's a better power supply for the Inspiron 531s:

http://cgi.ebay.com/260709465824

So you're looking at $60-$70 for a graphics card alone, or about $125 for a better card along with a power supply. But that's as good as it gets for a slimline.

To play cutting-edge games really well, you need a regular tower computer that can accept standard graphics cards and power supplies. If you had the regular tower model Inspiron 531, you'd have better upgrade options.

Performance:

http://www.xbitlabs.com/articles/graphic鈥?/a>

http://www.techspot.com/review/240-ati-r鈥?/a>|||Cheapest option $50:

Radeon 4670 (5570 and GTX 430 are all in the same performance/price range so those are good choices too).

This is a low power consumption video card and it should play games but it won't be a great card. You'll have to play on low-med settings.

If you want to play the higher end games, you're going to need a new power supply.

Less than $100 option:

9800 GT 256-bit 512MB GDDR3. - $50

430w Power Supply - $30ish

I'll run COD on med graphics pretty well. It'll give you about 30% more performance over the 4670.

Less than $200 option:

GTX 460 256-bit 768MB GDDR5 $100ish

or

GTX 460 SE 256-bit 1GB GDDR5 $100ish

500w Power Supply w/ two 6-pin PCIE connectors $50ish. It's ok to get one with only one pcie connector if you get a molex-to-pcie connector cable.

This is a legit video card and will run almost any game on max settings pretty well. It'll slightly overpower your cpu in some games. This will be more than 3x better than the first options, and more than twice the performance of the 9800 GT. GTX 460 (Fermi) is a very famous card amongst gamers.

4670:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.as鈥?/a>

9800GT:

Shop around for the GTX 460. I've seen them get down to $90. If you don't care about refurbished:

http://www.evga.com/products/prodlist.as鈥?/a>

(This comes with just the card, so you might need to buy a 4-pin molex to 6pin PCIE connector ($5).

For Power Supplies, I'd lurk around slickdeals.net and find a good deal on an Antec, Corsair, or OCZ power supply. If you don't want to wait, it's around $40-50 for the power supply.|||5570 or GT 430

What is the difference between a Dell Vostro and a Dell XPS?

My question is, If i built both an XPS and a Vostro with the same equipment what would be the difference(other than casing and looks)?

Would dell you different parts or anything like that? The vostro would be about $300 cheaper.|||XPS is better|||As the other person states, the vostro comes with less software and specially the propietary software (forgot the name but the one everyone removes ;) ) However, the xps comes better equiped and the materials used are a higher grade (better quality). Also, speaking one time with a dell representative (asking why an inspiron exactly the same as a XPS, the first one would be expensiver), he stated that Dell thinks that no one is going to upgrade to that point so they keep their prices lower (translating: The upgrades are more expensive that the system, if you don麓t believe, check out how much a memory upgrade costs in dell vs. newegg or tigerdirect, or your favorite provider.|||I hear that the Vostro comes with less trialware. How is the Dell Studio 15 laptop for a college student?

I am looking at laptops for college and have come across the Dell Studio 15 which looks pretty good. Does anyone know if this is a good laptop for college students? I will be a business major who is also obtaining prerequisites for medical school if that helps.|||ok heres the breakdown:

Macs vs. PC's

You'll definately want a PC no doubt because Macs cause all sorts of problems with compatability (the last thing you'll ever want to encounter when handing in your thesis that was written on your Mac and deemed unreadable by your professor's PC). Macs are easier to use but are also just that much more uselessly expensive. You can get a PC for 1/3 of the price that apple offers at the same level of performance.

I own the studio 15 laptop. One major drawback is that its fan is quite noisy. Its not loud enough for anybody to hear it in the library, but its enough to possibly bug you if youre alone in your dorm room and are the sort of person who has pet peeves like that. However, its performance is excellent, and its design is also interesting. It is a rather heavy laptop, especially when the 9 cell battery is in place. As far as college goes, this baby is more than capable of handling your needs with or without upgrading, although i would highly recommend upgrading the hard drive, memory, and processor if you plan on doing more than email, word processing, internet, and music.

One thing i would recommend is to make SURE you buy the accidental warranty plan. It may be because i have been a bit too careless with my laptop, but the studio 15 is a rather fragile laptop. the body on it has been notorious for falling off (the screen, although this is rather uncommon) and the buttons on the side may malfunction. Overall, it will last, but I would rather be on the safe side than have a broken laptop the night before your presentation... mine is in the shop right now, and good thing for that warranty or else i would have to cough up like 500 bucks and its not even major damage.

please consider other brands, ESPECIALLY lenovo idea/thinkpads and sony vaios. i would buy them over the studio 15 because of the drawbacks and the customer service at dell (mine got delayed shipping for about 7 weeks) but it is not a bad laptop at all.

***EDIT*** in response to the mac user above: however long the computer lasts depends entirely on the user. MACS DO GET VIRUSES! they are simply less common because the vast majority (95%) of consumers on the market are all using windows NOT the joke of an operating system tiger/leopard/cheetah/lion/grizzly bear/puma/ or w/e wild animal you wanna throw in there. the aluminum case has been known to get dented easily, eventually leading to hardware failure. i am not familiar with mac support as users are usually much more careful with them because of their pricey nature, but i assume it cannot be worse than dell's. think of it this way though; if you dont break your laptop, you wont need customer service or warranty for the matter of fact. you're choice

BEST OF LUCK IN COLLEGE WITH YOUR NEW LAPTOP MAN!|||dells laptops are pretty good. except if you want a computer that will last

i would go with a mac

1 there made out of aluminum which makes them more durable than the cheap dell plastic.

2. macs last longer and dont get viruses

3. apple support is great!

ive had a dell and there service isnt as good. i mean with mac you can take it to an apple genius and they will fix it.

apple has the best warranty in the business

macs have the highest resale value

If you have a legit key you can download a illegal copy of xp just to use it to get your laptop working then use the key you got to genuine the software. What do I need to have wireless internet on a Dell Inspiron 1525 laptop?

I have no idea what the difference between a modem and a router is. Also, does a dell inspiron 1525 have one of those cards inside them? Oh! And what is DSL? If you can help me I would appreciate it. |||Okay. First you must have internet already. The Modem provides a type of internet. An Internet subscription costs a certain amount of money each month.

Second, you have to go to a store to get a router A router is the thing that makes the internet wireless. And don't worry if you already have a PC that isn't wireless. The router should come with a cord that will connect it to the internet.

I recommend a Linksys router. Both a freind and I have one and they both work great. It also comes with a setup disc that tells you what you need to do step by step with animation as well as text. It's very simple to install. If you have a PC you unplug the Ethernet cord (it's the one that looks like the cord you plug into the phone only wider) from the computer, and plug it into the router. Then, with the cord they provide you plug one end into the number 1 port of the router, and then the other end into the PC Tower (the one you put discs into). If you get one from Best Buy, like I did, they have the Geek Squad that can help you if anything goes wrong.

Another way is that you buy a wireless internet cord from mostly any cell phone company. You've probably seen those commercials for those. You can get to the internet from almost anywhere whereas if you get a router you'll have to be within a certain distance from the router.

Hope this helps!|||Internet from your provider to you: thru a modem.

Internet to multiple computers with one isp connection: thru a router.

Sometimes you can get a modem/router: one piece of equipment. It's more common to have a modem and a router. The modem hooks up to the internet connection from your isp, and serves the connection to you. If you hook the router up to the modem, then this single internet connection can be used by multiple computers.

A wireless router has some ports for ethernet connections, and can also create a wireless network. This is what you want. You name your network and secure it with a key or passphrase.

Your 1525 has a wireless adapter (switch on the right side) as well as an ethernet adapter, so you can access either wired or wirelessly.

DSL is a broadband connection thru your phone line. If you are getting dsl, you may be able to get a modem/router combination device.|||A modem turns the providers signal into internet for your computer, the modem takes this signal and spreads it all over your house could be wireless or non wireless, if you only have one computer the you can just plug the modem straight into the computer. Yes, that computer has an included wireless network card, which allows it to receive the signal coming from a wireless router, or you can get the ethernet cable from the modem or router and plug it straight to the computer. Not sure what DSL exactly stands for but i know is faster than dial up and not as fast as cable internet.|||1. You should have the low end wireless card in your 1525 unless you ordered better one.

2. A MODEM is short for MOdulater/DEModualter, it is interface between your computer and whatever type of device you use to get to theinternet.

3. A router connects to the MODEM and routs all your cmputers to the MODEM, hence internet.

4. DSL, IIRC, stands for Digital ( or Dedicated) Subscriber Line, used by phone companies. Faster than dial up but uses existing telephone line.

When I got my 1525 I went to library and turne on my wireless card and made sure it worked, it did. To turn on yours make sure switch on right corner side front of your laptop is on and that the wireless card is turned on in the Windows Mobility Center. The switch on the side also controls Blue tooth if you have it.|||A new Dell Inspirion 1525 usually does have a wireless NIC card built into them 802.11's are what they're called.

A wireless router is needed to access the internet. It's like a hot-spot for your home. A modem is for the internet you receive over the telephone line.

DSL is Digital Subscriber Line. It's also over the telephone line but uses a different frequency than your phone. That's why you can talk on the phone while on the internet. A modem doesn't allow that.

But I'll just advise you to talk to a Dell sells rep. They can answer most of your questions concerning their laptops and routers.

What does it mean when the battery light on a dell netbook flashes pink?

I have a dell netbook, and every so often the light at the bottom flashes PINK, NOT red like it usually does when it is about to die. Its usually plugged into the charger when it does this. What does the pink light mean????? I haven't had any problems with this computer, but should i get it checked out?|||Are the lines there all the time even during boot-up? Or are they only there in Windows? If the lines are apparent only in Windows then I would suggest running Windows update and searching for a new video driver. Also check the device manager to determine what manufacture and model of video card you have. (Press Windows Key + Pause, select the hardware tab and then select device manager, under video adaptors see what is listed) Check the manufacture for an updated driver for the video card.

If the video issue is there even during boot up you could have a defective video card or LCD. If a driver update does not solve the issue and the line is showing up during POST (Power On Self Test, before windows is running, just after you start the computer) I would find out if your laptop is still under manufacturer warranty and bring it to the retailer that you bought it from A.S.A.P. They will most likely have to ship it out for repair or my replace it outright. Make sure you back up any valuable data before you let anyone take your computer.

If this is just a dell problem they must have put it there and I I don't see why they must be paid for something that's their fault. Does anyone have the same problem and please tell me what to do to get rid of it. Thanks.|||I have seen this from time to time on customer's monitors, and the standard method for unlocking it is to hold the monitor's Menu button down for 10-15 seconds. However, I have found that this doesn't always work, at least right away. I have spent several minutes performing that step over %26amp; over while trying different methods like powering the monitor off then on first, while the padlock is on screen first and with the padlock off the screen first, etc. Then at some point, all of a sudden it works. In short, when it comes to laptops anyone can work on the software, but leave the hardware stuff to the manufacturer -- that way you don't inadvertently void your warranty.|||If your Dad is friends with the IT guys at work, and especially if they owe him a favor, they will be happy to help.|||yeah but it wouldn't work with your dell warranty. for that you have to send back to dell or place you got the computer. that is if you have a warranty though|||I would tell dad to gat me an apple!|||please do me a favor and dont buy dell it sucks!!! buy a sony or a hp not dell or mac

How can i locate Dell equipment on my company's domain based on their service tag numbers?

I have a excel file of a list of 200 or so dell computers service tag numbers that my company has leased. The lease is now up and we have to return all that equipment. Nobody here cared to keep track of each piece of equipment as they were deployed. Now i have to look up each piece of equipment and find out where its located based on a dell service tag. Is there a script out there that i can run on my domain?|||The Dell service tag can be read from the BIOS by a program running locally on the Dell machine. You could write a program and run it on each Dell machine that would pick up the service tag and other info about the machine (IP, machine name, etc) and log it to a central server.

This snippet of VB code will pick up the Dell service tag:

Public Sub GetServiceTag()

On Error Resume Next

Set obj = GetObject("winmgmts:").InstancesOf("Win3鈥?br>

Dim xCount As Integer

For Each obj2 In obj

Text1.Text = obj2.SerialNumber

Next

End Sub|||call the cs and have them deal with it
