How do I reset a dell inspiron to factory settings with Windows XP?

I tried holding down ctrl and pressing f11 at the dell splash screen which it says to do on Dell website, but it didn't help. What am I doing wrong? Has anyone else successfully done this?|||Dell have at least two different ways of recovery depending on model an operating system.

read the dell web page given below

the only thing is I thought that F8 had to be pressed before the logo display to get into advanced boot options.

They aren't too expensive, I got mine for about $10. Type "Windows XP (your edition of XP) Dell. Get the same version and service pack as what was originally on the laptop or it won't work. You shouldn't need the key if you use a Dell disk. If it asks for it, it is on a sticker on the bottom of the laptop. It says "Windows XP _____ Edition" and there is a 25-digit code. You can find a video on YouTube that explains it further. Note: After you do this, all of your documents, pictures, music, programs etc will be deleted. Back these up first! Also you need to reinstall the drivers, too. Go to the Dell website and you can download them there.
